Shaqodoon Organization, which was on this day represented by Ahmed Omar Mohamed, has been a strategic partner with Amoud University since the year 2015. The organization has done a tremendous job each and every year helping students who are looking for internship opportunities to access places of
attachment. In addition, it has also been able to guide graduates of Amoud University on transition between school and employment or those interested in self employment through mentorship programmes in collaboration with other NGOs and via other avenues that encourage entrepreneurship ventures.
Hon. Farhan Aden Haybe, Chairman, Civil Service Commission of Somaliland has also been dedicated to the cause of connecting the youth to the internship places and also advancing need for organizations to absorb local talent thereby bridging unemployment gap and ensuring that universities and the job industry have a convergence of ideas and alignment of objectives. In his speech for example he presented several books to the audience including strategic plan and internship policy that is bound to guide how the academic institutions and organizations interact to collaborate on matters concerning internships and youth employment.
Our main theme for IT Open Day was "Connecting graduates to the job market through internship opportunities and talent exposure to potential employers". There are three main objectives that were intended to be achieved through IT Open Day and internship exposition event, namely :-
1. Exposing the practical skills and talents of our graduates to the outside world through demonstration of the top software projects they have developed thereby marketing brand Amoud University as a national university.
2. Inviting potential employers for future job seeking purposes to link up with our future graduates.
3. Inviting government input in the forum through line ministries relevant to our mutual interests as joint stakeholders in bridging unemployment gap through quality training and apprenticeship.
We appreciate that there is high rate of youth unemployment, a gap between university and industry and often times a double blind relationship between graduates and prospective employers. IT Open Day intends to bridge this gap by means of increased visibility and exposure to the emerging issues.
