Dr. Mohamed M. Jibril (PhD), President, Amoud University (AU), Prof. Ahmed A. Boqore, Vice President, Administration and Finance, Dr. Feyera D. Hundessa (PhD), Chief Executive Director, AUSPGSR, Mr. Mohamed H. Awale, Director, International Partnerships and Projects, Mohamed A. Osman, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, and Mr. Abdi Aziiz Mohamed, Associate Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Environment were present duirng the event.
The Project Manager, Mr. Mohamed H. Awale, Prof. Hared Abdilahi Nour (FAO), and Joseph Ahenda (FAO), delivered a briefing speech, indicating that the project aims to identify 17 crop varieties that exhibit robustness and adaptability to prevailing environmental factors, such as erratic rainfall patterns and increased temperatures. By harnessing scientific research and local expertise, the initiative seeks to introduce and promote these climate-smart crop varieties among local farmers, fostering sustainable agricultural practices in the face of climate variability.
While officially opening the project, Dr. Mohamed M. Jibril indicated that it was with great pleasure and immense pride for him, on behalf of Amoud University to inaugurate the commencement of the Climate-Smart Agriculture Project in collaboration with the esteemed Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Amoud University, he added, has always been deeply committed to advancing research and innovation that addresses the pressing challenges facing the local communities, particularly in the realm of agriculture through rigorous testing and evaluation of adoptable climate-smart solutions.
During the event, grants were awarded to six teams, comprising four staff teams and two student teams, all recognized for their outstanding proposals. This initiative is aligned with the university's strategic goal of enhancing research and knowledge production.
