
Our Executive Director of Center For Research and Community Services, Yusuf A. Hared Has Participated In Strengthening Operationalization o f One Health in Africa
The Academy of Medical Sciences (UK) and the African Academy of Sciences brought together over 70 multisectoral experts across the #OneHealth spectrum in the continent to comprehensively review previous and ongoing #OneHealth initiatives and research innovations across the human-animal-environmental health sectors, with a particular focus on operationalization and institutionalization of #OneHealth. Our Executive director of the Center for Research and Community Services, Yusuf A. Hared has participated as the speaker and presented the OneHealth journey in Somaliland that leading by Amoud University.
This was in order to understand where the gaps are and how a multisectoral approach could support in addressing these gaps.
Using high-level subject matter focus group discussions based on thematic areas of; Policy, Research, Community Engagement, and Data, We:
1. Documented existing initiatives, evidence, and successes from across the continent and the UK on the operationalization of #OneHealth approaches.
2. Identified country/region/continent-specific challenges, barriers and gaps to enhancing #OneHealth implementation that could be addressed through multisectoral collaboration
3. Prioritized community engagement in multisectoral initiatives and research collaboration
4. Identified key actions and research areas for multisectoral collaboration that can enhance One Health capabilities.
Representatives from key OneHealth actors (both funder and implementers) in Africa and the world participated including Key OneHealth Funders, Universities, UN agencies, Consortium, and OneHealth platforms in Africa.
