
On Sunday, November 13th, 2022, Mr. Mohamed H. Awale, Director, International Partnerships and Projects, Amoud University officially opened the Network and Systems Administration Training at Amoud University main campus. The 3-day programme is scheduled to end on Tuesday, November 15th, 2022 and is facilitated by two Haramaya University staff (HU) namely Dr. Tilahun Shiferaw Shibeshi, chief library & information officer, HU and Dr. Yidnekachew Girma Woldegebriel (Senior Systems and Network Administrator), HU, through AU-HU capacity building joint partnership programme.
At Amoud University, additional planning and coordination for this specific training was provided by Mr. Edwin O. Okech, Dean, Faculty of Computing and ICT, AU, and Mr. Mohyadin Farah Abdillahi, Director ICT servics, AU. The team being trained include AU ICT staff drawn from both academic and administrative divisions including Mr. Ahmed A. Sh. Ibrahim, Assoc. Dean, Examination and Registration, Faculty of Computing & ICT, AU; Mr. Khalid A. Hussein, Assoc. Dean, Students Affairs and Staff Welfare, Faculty of Computing & ICT, AU; Warsame A. Sh. Abi, Assoc. Dean, Academic Affairs, Faculty of Computing & ICT, AU; Kennedy M. Kiplagat, Laboratory Technician, Telecommunications Lab, AU; Harun M. Ibrahim, Laboratory Technician, ICT Lab, AU; Mohamed M. Omar, Administrator, Amoud College of Health Sciences (ACHS), AU; Samakab Basha, IT Officer, AU; and Abdiwahab Y. Abdillahi, Database Administrator, AU.
The training module includes fundamentals of windows server 2012 installation and configuration; basics of Active Directory Domain Services; Implementing server visualization wih Hyper-V; Managing virtual machines and networks; and Data Centre Management. This training is the second such training which are planned in a series of several trainings organized through the office of International Partnerships and projects with ultimate goal of advancing the use of technology to enhance efficiency at Amoud University by establishing “Amoud Cloud” which would be able to host data for Amoud Digital Library among other data, upon completion. In the first training prior to this one, the facilitators offered user support training to the chief librarian and other librarians on the user interface of the digital library including both client-side and server-side.
It is also important to note that the International Partnerships and projects office plans to extend such similar trainings on capacity building and technology advancement not only to the ICT services department but to all other academic and administrative units of Amoud University.
