Amoud University To Re-Open Wednesday, July 1st, 2020

Amoud University Senate held a meeting on Wednesday, June 24th, 2020 at the College of Health Sciences (ACHS) hall.

The main agenda for the meeting was the scheduled re-opening of Amoud University campuses for face to face sessions, post covid-19 lock down and matters related to final examinations for the remaining part of the March 2020/ July 2020 Academic Semester.

Prof. Suleiman Ahmed Gulaid, President, Amoud University chaired the meeting which was attended by Prof. Ahmed A. Boqore, Senior Vice President, Administration and Finance, Prof. Mohamed M. Jama "Derie", Vice President, Pulic Relations and Community outreach, Dr. Mohamed Muse Jibril Vice President, Academic Affairs and Dr. Said Ahmed Walhad, Principal, Amoud College of Health Sciences, ACHS.

A decision was reached to re-open operations in Amoud University across all campuses from Wednesday, July 1st, 2020 in line with Somaliland government plans to open the economy on the same date. This includes all Amoud University campuses namely, Main Campus, Borama, Amoud School of Postgraduate Studies, Borama Campus, Amoud School of Postgraduate Studies, Hargeisa City campus, Amoud College of Health Sciences, Borama Campus, Department of Freshman Studies Centre, Borama camous and Faculty of Sharia and Law Campus, Borama City.

In attendance were Suleiman Hassan Ali, - Chief Registrar, AU, Abdirahman Hassan Jeh, - Associate Dean, Faculty of Business & Public Administration, AU, Edwin O. Okech, - Dean, Faculty of Computing & ICT, AU, Mohamed Abdi Osman - Dean, Faculty of Agriculture & Environment, AU, Abdirizak Mahamud Osman, - Dean, Faculty of Economics & Political Science, AU, Eng. Abdikarim Idiris Nour, - Dean, Faculty of Engineering, AU, Abdirahman Ahmed Muhumed, - Dean, Faculty of Education, AU, Harun Ismail Warsame, - Dean, Freshman Department, AU, Dr. Mohamed Ali Nageeye, - Dean, Faculty of Sharia & Law, AU.

Upon completion of the consultative meeting, the President announced the following decisions from the senate:-

  1. Final Examination for College of Health Sciences will start on Saturday, July 4th, 2020.
  2. Final Examination for School of Postgraduate Studies and Research will start on Saturday, August 1st, 2020.
  3. Final Examinations for Sophomore, Junior and Senior Classes will start from July 1st, 2020 and end on Thursday, July 16th, 2020.
  4. Revision of Freshman classes will commence on Wednesday, July 1st, 2020 and end on Thursday, July 16th, 2020.
  5. Final Examination for Freshman classes will start on Friday, July 17th, 2020 and end on Tuesday, July 21st, 2020.

The students and staff have also been advised to follow Government of Somaliland guidelines alongside WHO - World Health Organization recommendations in matters related to mitigation of spread of covid-19 accordingly during the period when the university will have re-opened as the university anticipates future return to normalcy.

Therefore all Amoud University fraternity will be required to wear face masks and hand gloves during the face to face interactions within all its campuses, to keep social distance, among other safety requirements as specified through WHO, and as a measure to curb any risks associated with spread covid-19 infections.

The announcements were made following declaration by the Somaliland government on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020 of the scheduled re-opening of the Somaliland economy by Wednesday, July 1st, 2020.
