On Monday 26th, March 2018 the Faculty of Economics & Political Science (FEPS) hosted a Public Lecture at their Lecture Hall in Main Campus Amoud University Borama. Prof. Abdishakur Mohamed Hussein, a lecturer for Economics at Badar Islamic University and a consultant of Somaliland Central Bank was the the Guest of Honor.
The hosts included Abdale Ali Yusuf, Dean, Faculty of Economics & Political Science (FEPS) at Amoud University and the participants were students mainly drawn from the faculty of Economics & Political Science.
The Faculty of Economics & Political Science Abdalle Ali Yusuf, took time first to welcome all guests and then he gave a brief background of the Faculty of Economics & Political Science, Amoud University. He futher went ahead to highlight the importance of such activities as public lectures and the underscored value that they add to students' holistic approach to learning. The theme for the event was "Sharing Real World Experience". Upon completion of the introduction, he welcomed the guest of honor who was to give the key note speech.
In his keynote address Prof. Abdishakur highlighted the importance of studying economics as a subject not only at Amoud University but the world over and its relevance to the university, the Somaliland government and understanding of international trade. The guest of honor further gave a word of encouragement to the students through motivational talk while also inspiring them to set high goals and maximize the opportunities available for them to exploit the strengths of economics with view to changing their lives and those of their fellow country men in future upon graduation by applying that knowledge to the relevant sector.
The consultant accentuated the great importance of economics by reminding the students about application of theories of economics that may be applied in attempts to solve domestic macro-economic challenges such as the one currently facing Somaliland as a nation. Such matters he tackled in his speech included the Effect of Inflation in the economy coupled with its ripple effects on the ordinary citizens and financial institutions at home and further attempted to capture some possible practical solutions that could be applied in order to mitigate these challenges. He encouraged the students to prepare themselves to play a greater role as future economists even as the country grows economically. In his speech he gave many examples of his life experience, sharing with the students interesting stories of his personal life in order to stir up their thinking faculties and stretch their inquisitiveness.
As the event ended, the dean gave a special vote of thanks to the guest of honor and hailed the Students of Faculty of Economics & Political Science (FEPS), Amoud University for a job well done to ensure the the success of the event! He promised that the faculty would continue to support and organize other such extra curricular activities so as to help churn out not only highly qualified graduates but also well exposed experts in their fields of specialization.
