The Office of Students Affairs and Counseling Services (OSACS) of Amoud University organized a student orientation day on Sunday May 13th, 2018 at the main campus Amoud University.
The current population of students from freshman department is 1261 according to statistics and latest data from Office of the Chief Registrar for 2017/2018 Academic Year. The meeting was opened by a word from the Quran by Shamsudiin Mahamed Elmi. This was followed by a brief speech by Abdinasir Dahir Egeh, the assistant dean, Office of Students Affairs and Counseling Services. In his speech he reminded students to maintain discipline as it is considered a major recipe for success in anything you do in life. The students were further reminded to go by the Students Code of Conduct while carrying themselves at the university. Moreover he also informed the freshman students of the existence of Students Union of Amoud University which comprises student officials drawn from various faculties in the main campus Amoud university and whose membership comprises class representatives and faculty representatives from the student body. One of the mandates of his office, he said, is to help establish the office of the Students Union of Amoud Uiversity through organizing elections for them. In addition he reminded the students to be keen so that they may know the programmes, dates and events scheduled throughout the semester which significantly impact on their lives as students such as deadlines for registration and rules and regulations governing re-exams and special exams.
Another important point which he highlighted was the issue of student ID (Identification) cards which he said was a mandatory requirement for all students to have. He stated that all students need to observe and act according to the Academic rules and regulations of Amoud University so as to avoid any unnecessary disruption of their studies arising from disciplinary problems that may at times lead to costly delays or derailment of their studies. Lastly Abdinasir reminded the students fraternity to take note of the rules and regulations that govern boarding of the university students buses plying Borama-Amoud road including the need to satisfy all requirements in order to be granted permission to board such as possession of valid ID card and keeping time by arriving at the pick up point before the expiry of the time assigned for the respective classes' shift. He emphasized the need to keep time especially so as to avoid being barred from taking the bus as a result of lateness.
Thereafter, Harun Ismail Warsame, the Dean of the department of Freshman Studies, delivered a message to the audience followed by Sheikh Mahamed Bile, the head of Arab Relations, Amoud University, who offered a word of Hadith. Prof. Ahmed Abdullahi Boqore then delivered his keynote speech and requested leave immediately as he had other pressing matters to take care of. Prof. Mohamed Mohamoud Jama "Derie" Vice President for Public Relations, Students Affairs and Community Outreach then gave his official address before granting the floor to Dr. Mohamed Muse Jibril, Vice president for Academic Affairs, Amoud University, followed by a Somali poem recital from Shukri Ahmed Hussein. Others who spoke (in order of their speeches) included Mohamed Warsame a lecturer from faculty of Economics and Political Science on behalf of his faculty; Dr. Ismail H. Muhumed Ayeh, dean School of Medicine, Amoud College of Health Sciences who spoke on behalf of the entire College of Health Sciences; Mohamed Abdi Osman, dean Faculty of Agriculture & Environment who spoke on behalf of his faculty; Abdirahman Ahmed Muhumed, dean Faculty of Education who spoke on behalf of his faculty; Edwin Okech, dean Faculty of Computing & ICT who also spoke on behalf of his faculty; Eng. Farah Muse Khaire, dean Faculty of Engineering who spoke on behalf of his faculty, Abdisamad Egeh Habaneh who spoke on behalf of his faculty; and Dr. Mohamed Dawood Qawdan, dean School of Laboratory Sciences who similarly spoke on behalf of his faculty and lastly in closing was Suleiman Hassan Ali, Chief Registrar who spoke on behalf of the Office of The
Registrar, Amoud University.
In his closing remarks, he gave a vote of thanks to all persons present. He further gave the students some guidance on how to select their preferred first and second choices of programmes from the official Amoud University portal alongside the minimum requirements for each programme such as overall GPA(Grade Point Average) and grade requirements in Mathematics or English courses, which are needed so as to qualify for admission into specific programmes in each faculty. Finally, he reminded students that grade appeal is allowed from any students who feel dissatisfied with their results as long as they pay the requisite fee but shall be undertaken during the first two weeks of opening of any new academic semester and therefore students should strive to follow this up earlier on to avoid getting time-barred.
