Brief History, Faculty of Engineering
The faculty of engineering was started in 2008 to give priority to academic research and consultancy and promote a strong local and international cooperation in the field of engineering. The Faculty contributes to producing a Model Society through imparting core academic and professional engineering values to the students, and working together with other sectors to implement the industrialized economic development strategy of the country and to make the economy of the country highly competitive in the construction and production spheres. After the destruction of infrastructure that resulted from the devastating civil war in early 1990’s, heavy investment is required in the construction sector. This will include investment in heavy machinery to build and construct all forms and types of required infrastructure. But all such investments are of no avail without a critical mass of highly qualified and well-trained human resource to handle such equipments. In any case, after the human capital flight that occurred during and after the civil war, the pool of qualified engineers in the country is too thin to meet the current construction demand. Amoud University responded to this shortfall by creating the faculty of engineering in 2008. The aim of the university is to reduce over-reliance of expectorate engineers by producing well qualified local engineers. The faculty was founded on this mission, and has endeavored to produce local personnel who can invent, design, analyze, build and test machines, complex systems, structures, gadgets and materials to fulfill fundamental objectives and requirements with contextual limitations.

1.0.4 Programmes Summary
The Faculty of Engineering offers three programmes leading to awards of a bachelor of civil engineering, a bachelor of water supply and environmental engineering and a bachelor of electrical and electronics engineering.
The bachelor of civil engineering programme is intended to produce professional engineers who can design, build and maintain physical and naturally built environments. The program is intended to produce engineers who are active and equipped with practical and theoretical knowledge to provide consultancy services to government and non-governmental organizations in Somaliland. Graduates of this programme should be engineers who can design system components or processes to meet desired needs within realistic constraints of economic, environmental, social, health and safety domains. The programme is provided through course work, examination and project. Students enrolled this programme will cover 57 courses in 8 semesters. A student is eligible to graduate after accumulating minimum of 173 credit units.
The bachelor of water supply and environmental engineering programme is intended is to provide students with a solid foundation and a comprehensive technical proficiency in water supply and sanitation systems, assessment and appropriate remediation measures related to environmental pollution by domestic and industrial effluents, as well as in other water and environment related engineering disciplines. The programme is designed to enable its graduate to work in all fields and address all issues of water and environmental engineering and management. The bachelor of water supply and environmental engineering is an 8-semester course of study, provided through course work, examination and project. Students enrolled this programme shall cover 55 courses and shall be eligible to graduate after accumulating minimum of 167 credit units.
The bachelor of electrical and electronics engineering programme is designed to prepare students for professional career in the area of electrical, electronics, communications, signal processing and power engineering. The programme provides students with strong practical and theoretical background to enable them function effectively with whatever available resources. The programme orientates students to pursue further studies or join the field of work as competent electrical and electronics engineers. In order to graduate from the bachelor of electrical and electronics engineering, students shall cover 50 courses and at least 152 credit units in eight semesters.
