
H. E. Mustafe Muhumed Omer, president of the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia on Wednesday, June 15th, 2022 arrived at Amoud University premises at around 9:20am to a warm reception led by H. E. Abdirahman Salyci, Vice President, Somaliland, alongside Prof. Suleiman Ahmed Gulaid, President, Amoud University. The Vice President was accompanied by several high level dignitaries of Somaliland government including Hon. Abdullahi Abdirahman Aare, Somaliland Minister of Investment and Industrial Development among other government officials and also Dr. Edna Adan, president, Edna Adan University, Hargeisa. Also in the receiving party were Mohamed Ahmed Warsame, the Mayor of Borama City, the capital of Awdal region and H. E. Mohammed Ahmed Alin, incumbent Governor of Awdal region. Several prominent clan elders and influential business community members together with Amoud family comprising students and staff were also included in the recepion at graduation hall, Amoud Univerity.
Saed Hassan Habaneh, Director Human Resource Management Office, Amoud University, was the Master of ceremonies for the day’s event. He welcomed the dignitaries to the event and invited Sayid Ali who offered opening prayers before start of the event. Dr. Mohamed Muse Jibril, Vice President, Academic Affairs, Amoud University then gave a brief history and background of Amoud University where he higlighted the events leading to its establishment in 1997. Dr. Mohamed also narrated about the opening of School of Postgraduate Studies and Research, which has offered several masters programmes on the past since its opening in 2012 and has finally this year 2022 been able to start PhD programmes in collaboration with Haramaya University with 60 students having registered initially for various programmes.
Mohamed Ahmed Warsame, the Mayor of Borama City took the opportunity to warmly welcome the guests to Borama City including H. E. Mustafe M. Omer, H. E. Abdirahman A. Ismail and other dignitaries in the delegation. H. E. Mohammed Ahmed Alin Yusuf, incumbent Governor of Awdal region also welcomed the guests and strongly urged the visiting president, H. E. Mustafe M. Omer and his host H. E. Abdirahman A. Ismail to foster closer ties between Somali Regional State and Somaliland in terms of cross border trade and investments. He noted that the two states cshared a long neighborly border and would mutually have invaluable benefits by encouraging free trade among their people.
Prof. Suleiman Ahmed Gulaid, President, Amoud University. The president congratulated H. E. Mustafe M. Omer for having done a good job at helping establish and maintain peace in the Somali Region which is a key recipe for development despite a lot of turbulence in the whole world. He briefly touched on H. E. Mustafe’s educational and histroical background and emphasized on the need to further nurture the growing bonds between the neighboruing nations, highlighting the intertwined relationships among its people.
H. E. Mustafe Muhumed Omer, president of the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia inn his speech, thanked the president of Somaliland H. E. Muse Bihi, in his absence for hosting him and sending the vice president H. E. Abdirahman A. Ismail in his stead for the event. He also touched on the need for closer ties among the nations of horn of Africa region including Somaliland, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Somalia. He also echoed the theme of the event which all speakers seemed to have touched on. In addition he urged the people of both states, Somali regional state and Somaliland to take advantage of the growing opening of markets to free trade which has been spearheaded by the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Right Honorable Abey Ahmed. He mainatined that without togetherness there is no meaningful development that could be achieved and therefore it was incumbent uponn all people including Somalilanders to be together to foster peace and development, in adition to living at peace with each other as Somalis and with other communities because that is how to co-exist in the world today.
H. E. Mustafe accepted several quetions from the students audience followed by reactions from him.
H. E. Abdirahman Salyci, Vice President, Somaliland made the closing remarks. In his closing remarks expressed vote of thanks to the guests, event organizers, and Amoud university in general. He also thanked the visiting presidnt for the honor of the visit and with these officially closed the event
