Gracing the occasion was Prof. Suleiman Ahmed Gulaid, President, Amoud University who delivered the main speech. In his speech, the president reminded the audience that he was very proud of the fact that Amoud University had given hope to many students due to the strength of of training, certificates and practical skills and abilities of graduates produced such that it had contributed significantly in deterring students from the immigration tendencies. He said that most students studying at the university had been convicted of the fact that there are opportunities that they could surely benefit from if they stayed in school and were able to therefore be productive members of the community providing home grown solutions to most national problems.
Prof. Mohamed Mohamoud Jama "Derie", Vice President for Public Relations, Community Outreach and overall in Charge of Extra Curricular and Abdisamad E. Habaneh, the dean of the students together with Harun Ismail Warsame, the dean of Freshman Department were overall responsible for planning and organization of the event.
The freshman department is where all academic years begin at Amoud University. It is the entry point to all faculties and schools located at the various campuses which offer various programmes at the university. The students are offered English courses and other general requirement courses for one academic year and based on their cumulative Grade Points Average performance attained from the two semesters in that first year, they are then allowed to select preferred courses as they join the specialization areas in second year, commonly referred to as Junior Academic year. The current population of
students from freshman department is 1305 according to statistics and latest data from Office of the Chief Registrar for 2018/2019 Academic Year.
Present during the event were various deans of faculties from main campus, Amoud University and several deans of schools from Amoud College of Health Sciences (ACHS) who gave brief overview of programmes offered in their various academic units. These included Dr. Ismail H. Muhumed Ayeh, dean School of Medicine, ACHS, who spoke on behalf of the entire College of Health Sciences; Mohamed Abdi Osman, dean Faculty of Agriculture & Environment; Abdirahman Ahmed Muhumed, dean Faculty of Education; Edwin Okech, dean Faculty of Computing & ICT; Eng. Abdikarim Idiris Nour, dean Faculty of Engineering, Abubokor Said Abdi, Dean Faculty of Business and Public Administration, Abdirisak Mahamud Osman, Dean Faculty of Economics and Political Science and Dr. Mohamed Dawood Qawdan, dean School of Laboratory Sciences.
Said Hassan Habaneh, Director Human Resource Directorate, a career guidance and counseling expert, also gave students brief highlights of factors to consider when choosing a preferred course. The closing remarks was delivered by Suleiman Hassan Ali, Chief Registrar who spoke on behalf of the Office of The Registrar, Amoud University. In his closing remarks, he gave a vote of thanks to all persons present. He further gave the students some guidance on how to select their preferred first and second choices of programmes from the official Amoud University portal alongside the minimum requirements for each programme such as overall GPA(Grade Point Average) and grade requirements in Mathematics or English courses, which are needed so as to qualify for admission into specific programmes in each faculty. Finally, he reminded students of the most important rules and regulations of Amoud University.
Fahad Abdirahman, the head of IT department and the database administrtaor of Amoud University online students management information system (SMIS), Amoud University also gave the students a brief overview of the steps to follow when applying for their preferred courses.
