Dr. Jibril is a former public health and clinical psychiatry researcher based at Amoud University, Borama, Somaliland. His research interests are psychiatry services, infectious diseases epidemiology, health systems and non communicable disease control and policy in Somalia and the WHO EMRO region countries. Methods are mixed methods and literature reviews with special interest in qualitative research. His last project in public health/ infectious disease control was research on Bovine Tuberculosis prevalence and its associated risk factors among cattle and agro-pastoralists in Awdal region, Somaliland. he has published several papers and more works can be read from https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Djibril_Handuleh.
In another related news, Dr. Hassan Elmi has also started a four year residency training program in Surgery through the same Ethiopian government partial scholarship. Dr Hassan Elmi is a Medical Doctor at Borama Regional Hospital and Lecturer of Amoud University School of Medicine. In addition he is also a Physician at Alhayatt Amoud University Teaching and Referral Hospital.
In addition, as part of capacity building for it's staff, the department of psychiatry at Amoud University invited two visiting professors, namely Dr. Daniel Fekadu Wolde Giorgis from Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London who co-delivered the undergraduate psychiatry course two months ago together with Dr. Alexander Finlayson of Oxford University who has been involved with distance teaching of Somali interns and medical students since the year 2007. Dr. Jibril Handuleh and Dr. Alexander have worked jointly on several projects including several co-authored papers between the two of them.
Dr. Alexander has worked and continues to work in various capacities including as Responsible Clinician for inpatient, intensive care and secure units, led and set up Neurodevelopment and Eating Disorder Clinics and Care Pathways, Lead for NICE Guidance in Oxford Child Mental Health Services, eLearning champion & pioneer in UK and Africa, Lead in Audit Group and Clinical Governance in Oxford, and Associate Clinical Director (until 2012) just to mention but a few.
Dr. Daniel is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Visiting Senior Lecturer and Professor. Dr. Alexander is an academic clinical fellow who was previously wokred in various capacities including Head of Research, King's Centre for Global Health; Kennedy Scholar at Harvard in Systems Biology and the lab of Philip Leder; ACF in Cancer Medicine, Oxford; DFID funded programme for Health System Strengthening in Somaliland, MedicineAfrica (BMJ Junior Doctor of the Year 2012), 2023 Challenge Venture Philanthropy Fund, advisor to Global health APPG in House of Lords for on digital health, among many other positions.
