Gracing the occasion was Prof. Mohamed Mohamoud Jama "Derie", Vice President for Public Relations, Community Outreach and overall in Charge of Extra Curricular activities, Amoud University who delivered the opening speech. In his speech the Prof. Derie advised students to read a lot and make informed choices for their careers. In addition he congratulated them for having chosen Amoud University for their undergraduate studies and challenged them further to aim to pursue Masters and PhD degrees in future. Dr. Mohamed Muse Jibril, Vice President, Academic Affairs, Amoud University delivered the key note address. He urged the students to observe key examination rules and regulations and revise thoroughly for their examinations so as to attain good grades. The Master of ceremonies was Abdinasir Dahir Egeh, assistant dean, Office of Students; Affairs (OSA) together with Harun Ismail Warsame, the dean of Freshman Department who were overall responsible for planning and organization of the event.
The freshman department is the first academic year where all undergraduate programmes begin at Amoud University. It is the entry point to all faculties and schools located at the various campuses which offer various programmes at the university. The students are offered English language courses and other general requirement courses for one academic year and based on their cumulative Grade Points Average performance attained from the two semesters in that first year, they are then allowed to select preferred courses as they join the specialization areas in second year, commonly referred to as Sophomore Academic year. The current population of students from freshman department is 1328 according to statistics and latest data from Office of the Chief Registrar for 2020/2021 Academic Year.
Present during the event were various deans of faculties from main campus, Amoud University. These included Mohamed Abdi Osman, dean Faculty of Agriculture & Environment; Abdirahman Ahmed Muhumed, dean Faculty of Education; Edwin Okech, dean Faculty of Computing & ICT; Eng. Abdikarim Idiris Nour, dean Faculty of Engineering, Bishar Elmi Yey, Dean Faculty of Business and Public Administration and Abdirisak Mahamud Osman, Dean Faculty of Economics and Political Science.
Said Hassan Habaneh, Director Human Resource Directorate, a career guidance and counseling expert, also gave students brief highlights of factors to consider when choosing a preferred course. The closing remarks was delivered by Suleiman Hassan Ali, Chief Registrar who spoke on behalf of the Office of The Registrar, Amoud University highlighting the need for students to acquaint themselves with such policy documents as Examination policy and related examination matters. He further gave the students some guidance on how to select their preferred first and second choices of programmes from the official Amoud University portal alongside the minimum requirements for each programme such as overall GPA(Grade Point Average) and grade requirements in Mathematics or English courses, which are needed so as to qualify for admission into specific programmes in each faculty.
