
Amoud University is today Tuesday, June 14th, 2022 playing host to H. E. Mustafe Muhumed Omer (Somali: Mustafe Muxumed Cumar), who is the current president of the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia. The visiting president and his delegation will be received by Prof. Suleiman Ahmed Gulaid, president, Amoud University among several high profile representatives of Somaliland government alongside top regional and local government respresentatives of Awdal region, including clan elders and influential business community members together with Amoud family comprising students and staff in a grand entry procession welcome to be organized from Garyawol center leading into Borama town. The visiting president will have a one day stay over in Borama town and is then scheduled to proceed to Amoud University.
H. E. Mustafe has previously worked as a teacher activist, and humanitarian in food security (pastoral and agro-pastoral livelihoods), partnership, resource mobilization, and strategic planning roles in different NGOs. The president was born in 1972 in Aware, in the Jarar zone of Ethiopia. He attended primary and intermediate school in the Aware district of the Jarar region. His family relocated to Degahbur where he started secondary school at Degahbur. He attended Addis Ababa University where he received an undergraduate degree in economics. He also received a Master’s in Science in Agricultural Economics from Imperial College London. He thereafter became a teacher at the Jijiga college and was later promoted to vice deputy assistant. Later on, he served as deputy of the Somali regional education office. In addition, he worked with international non-governmental institutions in different positions such as Save the Children, Oxfam and OCHA.
