In today’s interconnected and globalized world, proficiency in English is not merely a valuable skill but an essential tool for academic achievement, professional success, and effective international communication. English has become the dominant language in education and professional sectors across the Horn of Africa, including Somaliland. At Amoud University, where English serves as the primary medium of instruction, students often face challenges due to limited exposure, as they live in a largely monolingual society where Somali is the sole formal language. To address this gap, Amoud University established the English Language Improvement Program (ELIP), designed to enhance students’ capabilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, thereby preparing them for academic excellence, professional advancement, and global engagement. Beyond its academic benefits, English proficiency also creates broader opportunities in a competitive world, and ELIP’s comprehensive, needs-focused approach ensures that these advantages are accessible to the Amoud University community and the wider region.
POSITION DETAILS
- Position Title: English Lecturer

- Location: Amoud University, Borama, Somaliland

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A Master’s degree in TESOL, TEFL, TESL, CELTA, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
- OR A Bachelor’s degree in the above fields with a Master’s degree in Education or related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years of English teaching at higher education institutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver high-quality English language instruction at undergraduate and pre-university levels.
- Teach courses in Listening, Speaking, Reading & Writing.
- Design, prepare, and update teaching materials, resources, and assessments.
- Support curriculum development and contribute to ELIP’s long-term vision.
- Provide academic support and mentoring to students.
- Participate actively in departmental meetings, professional development activities, and community outreach programs.
DESIRED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
- Strong command of English (native or near-native proficiency).
- Familiar with integrating technology and computer literacy into English language teaching.
- Experience teaching in multicultural contexts.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to student-centered and innovative teaching approaches.
